Candidates also had to have passed SSC in the medium applied for, or Intermediate or a degree with that medium or language. The current cycle's qualifications are not published yet.

- 18 to 44 years as on 1 July of the notification year, with the maximum raised to 49 for SC, ST, BC and EWS candidates and 54 for physically challenged candidates, and ex-servicemen allowed to deduct their armed-forces service plus three years, in the previous cycle (Notification No.02/TRC-1/2024 dated 12 Feb 2024 for the AP Teacher Recruitment Test); the current cycle's age rule is not published yet. - In the previous cycle (Notification No.02/TRC-1/2024 dated 12 Feb 2024) every selected candidate was first appointed as an apprentice teacher for two years on a monthly stipend prescribed by the Government, and placed in a regular post with a regular pay scale only on satisfactory completion of the apprenticeship; the current cycle's terms are not published yet. Gross and in-hand pay vary by posting and allowance.

Basic eligibility paths
- A pass in the Andhra Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test is one of the minimum qualifications for appointment as a teacher for classes I to VIII under the RTE Act 2009 and NCTE norms, as restated in APTET Notification No.01-APTET-JUNE-2026 dated 5 Jun 2026.
- That notification also warns that qualifying in APTET confers no right to appear in the Teacher Recruitment Test without the qualifications prescribed in the statutory recruitment rules.
- In the previous cycle (Notification No.02/TRC-1/2024) candidates chose among Government, Zilla Parishad, Mandal Parishad, Municipal, Municipal Corporation and Tribal Welfare Ashram schools after selection, and no waiting list was maintained.
- Confirm the post list, age, local-cadre and category rules in the current-cycle DSC notice when it is published.
Relaxations & certificates
- SC/ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD and ex-servicemen relaxations follow the applicable notification.
