Who can apply?

A readable first check—not a legal eligibility decision.

Basic eligibility paths

  • Recruitment is run by Assam Rifles itself and is separate from the SSC Constable (General Duty) examination that fills Rifleman (General Duty); the posts carry all-India service liability including field service.
  • Vacancies are earmarked State/UT-wise, so a candidate must submit the Domicile or Permanent Residential Certificate of the State/UT applied against — the previous cycle's notice states the State cannot be changed at document verification and that the candidature is cancelled if a different State's certificate is produced.
  • Only online applications are accepted through the force's Group 'B' and 'C' recruitment page; candidates are told not to send application printouts or copies of certificates by post.
  • SC/ST or OBC candidates applying against unreserved vacancies do not get the age and other concessions meant for their category, and OBC candidates claiming reservation must upload an OBC non-creamy-layer certificate from the competent civil authority.
  • The previous cycle's notice earmarked 10% of vacancies for ex-servicemen in the Religious Teacher, Draughtsman, Electrical & Mechanical, Surveyor ITI, Plumber and Lineman Field trades, to be filled by non-ex-servicemen candidates if suitable ex-servicemen are not available, and it barred candidates of the physically handicapped category from that examination.
  • Confirm every condition in the current advertisement when it is published; no current-cycle figure is asserted here.

Relaxations & certificates

  • The previous cycle's notice allowed 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC, up to 40 years for serving Assam Rifles personnel (General/OBC) and up to 45 years for serving SC/ST personnel, with the corresponding limits of 35 years for the Religious Teacher post, and the standard ex-servicemen relaxation after deducting military service rendered.
  • The force's standing recruitment page records relaxation in physical standards for candidates of the Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra and Maratha categories and for candidates of the notified hill and North Eastern States, against a certificate in the prescribed format.
  • Always confirm the relaxation table and certificate formats in the current advertisement before relying on them.
If your degree title, age, domicile or category certificate is unusual, mark yourself “check required” and read the official wording.

Selection process & syllabus

Stage by stage, without mixing recruitment years.

Selection stages

  1. 1Screening of applications, which the force's recruitment page says may shortlist candidates on the average marks of the qualifying examination
  2. 2Physical Standard Test — height, chest and weight against the post-wise and region-wise table printed in the advertisement
  3. 3Physical Efficiency Test — in the previous cycle a 5 km run in 24 minutes for men and a 1.6 km run in 8 minutes 30 seconds for women outside the Ladakh region, and 1.6 km in 7 minutes for men and 800 m in 5 minutes in the Ladakh region
  4. 4Written examination — the recruitment page states that a candidate who fails the physical test is not permitted to sit it
  5. 5Skill, trade or typing test wherever applicable, qualifying in nature
  6. 6Detailed medical examination, with the merit list for all Group 'C' posts drawn solely on written-test marks subject to qualifying the practical, physical, skill, trade or typing tests

Syllabus snapshot

  • The force's own Group 'B' and 'C' recruitment page states the written examination covers General Intelligence and Reasoning, General English, Numerical Aptitude and General Awareness.
  • The same page states the question papers are objective type and bilingual, in both English and Hindi, for all posts.
