Basic eligibility paths

  • Rule 5(2)(b) of the Chhattisgarh Lower Judicial Service (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2006 reserves 10 per cent of Civil Judge (Senior Division) posts for promotion strictly on merit through a limited competitive examination held by the High Court as per Schedule-III of the rules.
  • Only serving Civil Judges (Junior Division) who have completed a minimum of three years' service are eligible for that stream; the remaining 90 per cent of posts go by merit-cum-seniority to officers with at least five years' service.
  • The same rule requires a candidate promoted through the limited competitive examination to secure a minimum of 50 per cent marks in the written examination.
  • If no candidate qualifies under the limited competitive stream, the vacancy is treated as a merit-cum-seniority vacancy for that year.
