Jharkhand District Judge (Entry Level) Direct Recruitment from the Bar

Basic eligibility paths

• ✓Recruitment is made under the Jharkhand Superior Judicial Service (Recruitment, Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2001 as amended, read with the Jharkhand Superior Judicial Service (Recruitment, Appointment and Conditions of Service) Regulation, 2024, which Advertisement No. 01/2024/Apptt. expressly invokes.
• ✓That advertisement required a law graduate qualified for enrolment under the Advocates Act, 1961, with more than seven years' practice at the Bar, and an age above 35 but below 45 years as on 31 January 2023.
• ✓The application had to carry uploaded self-attested certificates of educational qualification from matriculation onwards, the Bar enrolment certificate, the certificate of experience at the Bar, proof of date of birth and a fitness certificate from a qualified medical practitioner; a differently abled candidate also had to upload a Medical Board certificate.
• ✓Reference testimonials from two persons certifying good moral character had to be uploaded, and the candidate had to disclose any criminal case instituted by or pending against him or her with the FIR, charge sheet, judgment or order.
• ✓The advertisement records that the decision of the Selection Committee and the High Court on all posts is final and that no communication will be entertained.

Selection stages

1. 1Preliminary Entrance Test — objective, 100 marks in aggregate, two hours, with negative marking of one mark for each wrong answer (Advertisement No. 01/2024/Apptt.)
2. 2Main Examination of two papers of 100 marks each, held in two sittings of three hours per paper
3. 3Viva-Voce Test of 40 marks, whose marks are added to the Main Examination marks to prepare the merit list; a candidate scoring less than 30 per cent in the viva-voce is not eligible for selection whatever the written marks
4. 4A differently abled candidate is allowed compensatory time of 20 minutes for each hour of written examination

• Main Examination Paper-II, Substantive Law, 100 marks — Constitution of India; IPC and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; law of contract; Sale of Goods Act; Transfer of Property Act; Negotiable Instruments Act; law relating to motor vehicle accident claims; jurisprudence; Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act; Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act; POCSO Act; Prevention of Corruption Act; SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989; Electricity Act, 2003; and the NDPS Act.
