Basic eligibility paths
- In the previous cycle (Officer Grade A 2025) a candidate could apply for a maximum of two streams, with a separate application and fee for each.
- Candidates who have appeared or will appear for their final examinations could sit Phase I and Phase II, but had to produce the qualifying certificate before the interview.
- Two years' post-qualification experience as an advocate is a desirable — not mandatory — qualification for the Legal stream, and carries interview weightage alongside the Engineering streams.
- Confirm education, age, nationality and category rules in the official current-cycle notice when it is published.
Relaxations & certificates
- SC/ST, OBC-NCL, PwBD and ex-servicemen relaxations follow the applicable notification.
- Always check the certificate format and cut-off date in the official notice.

- Phase I Paper 1 (all streams) covers General Awareness including the financial sector, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude and Test of Reasoning — 100 marks in 60 minutes; Paper 2 is stream-specific, with Commerce, Accountancy, Management, Finance, Costing, Companies Act and Economics for the General stream.
- Phase II Paper 1 is a descriptive English test of drafting skills for all streams; Paper 2 is the stream's specialised subject, descriptive for the Research and Official Language streams.
- A quarter of the marks is deducted for each wrong multiple-choice answer, and Phase I marks count only for shortlisting, not for final selection.
- Use only the official current-cycle syllabus when it is published; the annexure to each advertisement carries the detailed subject list.
