Who can apply?

Basic eligibility paths

  • Open only to serving employees of the 10 participating services and cadres named in the notice; the application must be forwarded through the Service/Cadre Controlling Authority.
  • Central Passport Organisation: Junior Passport Assistant with six years' regular service in the grade and a bachelor's degree from a recognised university.
  • Armed Forces Headquarters Clerical Service: at least five years' approved continuous service in the JSA grade, reduced to four years where the candidate entered the grade through a competitive examination whose result was announced at least five years before the crucial date.
  • Employees on deputation to ex-cadre posts with the competent authority's approval remain eligible if otherwise qualified.
  • Reservation for SC, ST and PwBD candidates follows the vacancy position reported by each Cadre Controlling Authority.

Selection process & syllabus

Stage by stage, without mixing recruitment years.

Selection stages

  1. 1Part-I Paper-I: computer-based objective examination of 200 marks covering General Awareness and English Language & Comprehension, 2 hours, with 0.25 negative marking
  2. 2Part-I Paper-II: conventional written paper on Noting, Drafting and Office Procedure (100 marks, 2 hours)
  3. 3Part-II: evaluation of record of service from APARs (100 marks)
  4. 4Final selection on the aggregate of Part-I and Part-II; cadre-wise merit lists are drawn up to the number of vacancies

Syllabus snapshot

  • Paper-I: General Awareness, and English Language and Comprehension (objective, computer-based).
  • Paper-II: Noting, Drafting and Office Procedure, answered in conventional descriptive form.
  • Part-I totals 300 marks and Part-II adds 100 marks for the record of service.
